As Christian parents we all want our children to develop the habit of reading the Bible individually. But how do you do this for young children who might be intimidated by the size and language of God's word?
Well, I just came across this wonderful resource and I plan on purchasing it for my 8 year old. Crossway publishers just released Exploring the Bible: A Bible Reading Plan for Kids. It is written by Dr. David Murray, professor of Old Testament and Practical Theology at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. He seeks to balance text and application in an approachable way, and from my perusal of the free sample it looks like he nailed it!
You can which includes an interview with the author. I recommend this book to all of our parents of children, ages 8-12.
Yesterday I went to two baseball games and wore a t-shirt, and today I went running at 7:30 and it was beautiful outside. That tells me that Summer is only a few months away!

As a quick reminder, the Elementary Greek class that I will teach begins this afternoon, from 4:45 - 6:00 PM. Tonight's class will provide a brief introduction to the history of the language, and quickly move to a focus on learning the script.
If you are interested in the class but unsure if you can commit, or have questions about what it will look like, come this afternoon because I will answer all of those questions. Or, if you are interested but the time/day is restrictive for you let me know and we can potentially move the time/day.

If you are planning on taking the Greek course that I will be leading, we will begin meeting next week on Monday from 4:45 - 6 PM. You can find a syllabus attached to this e-mail that outlines the course goals, expectations, and required texts.
I know the Paine text is a bit expensive, but it is the best inductive approach to Greek that I have found. Find one of the used copies for sale and purchase it.
Please let me know if you are planning on attending the course, and e-mail me with any questions that you might have.

This year, my oldest son asked me to teach him Greek. Naturally, I said "of course I will!!!!" In part because I want him to know the language, and also because it keeps my skills sharp. So . . . this year, I will be giving him instruction on Tuesday afternoons for one hour throughout the year. This will be followed with translation homework.
We will progressively make our way through the Gospel of John in Greek. If you, your child, or anyone you know is interested in joining us (and committing for one year), please let me know by sending me an e-mail (patrick.stefan3@gmail.com).

If you were at worship on Sunday you heard that Dave Long, a longtime pastor in the RPCNA, passed away on Saturday. I only had the opportunity to meet Dave Long twice, but each time I was blessed. We came into the RPCNA because of men like Dave. He was a kind-hearted, loving, empathic pastor who deeply loved God's sheep.
His congregation and family will miss him dearly, but we rest in the assurance that God will raise him from the dead on the last day. Please pray for the Long family this week.

God’s Word has a lot to say about marriage. It sees the ordinance of marriage as a picture of our relationship with God (Eph. 5:22-32), it speaks on the sanctity of marriage (Ex. 20:14), and it reminds us of the care that God places on marriage (Mal. 2:16). However, even though we know these truths about our marriage, we sometimes fail to give our marriage the attention it deserves.
